Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, the former Governor of Abia State, has reassured members of the Abia State PDP caucus that he remains committed to the party and intends to collaborate with others to revitalize it.

Addressing the caucus during a gathering at the new party secretariat in Umuahia, Dr. Ikpeazu emphasized the importance of unity among party members to facilitate the party’s resurgence after the setbacks of the 2023 elections.

He acknowledged the departure of some of his former aides to other political parties but affirmed his loyalty to the PDP.

“We must all take individual responsibility for our performance in the 2023 elections even as our party is going through self cleansing at the moment. I will remain in PDP and will never be found wanting in my responsibilities to our party and its rebuilding process.

“Those who want to leave will leave no matter what you do but loyalty is also about the realization that at some point this party has been good to you. It is now time for sacrifice especially from those who previously benefitted from our party in one way or another as we must all join hands to reposition it,” he said.

Echoing similar sentiments, the state PDP Chairman, Rt Hon Asiforo Okere, commended members who have remained steadfast in their support for the party, despite the challenges faced during the previous elections.

He highlighted the party’s continued influence in the state legislature, underscoring its resilience.

On his part, Senator Austin Akobundu, representing Abia Central Senatorial District insisted  the PDP in Abia State remains a strong party, saying that it remains an indomitable force.

Similarly, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, an elder statesman and PDP Board of Trustees member, called for unity within the party, stressing the need to move past the blame game and focus on revitalizing the party for future success.

The meeting, attended by various party stakeholders including the immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and other prominent party members, underscored the collective commitment to rebuilding and strengthening the PDP in Abia State.
