Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State makes a surprising reversal, reappointing Yusuf Imam, previously dismissed for disparaging remarks directed at Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Imam, formerly the Special Adviser for Youth and Sport, faced termination last September alongside Adamu Aliyu, the commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, following a controversy over a death threat issued to state tribunal judges.

The government’s spokesperson, Halilu Dantiye, cited the officials’ conduct as incompatible with the state government’s stance and promptly announced their dismissal.

However, eight months later, both officials have been reinstated. While Aliyu’s reappointment occurred in March, Imam’s recall was confirmed in April by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.

In addition to Imam’s reinstatement, Governor Yusuf approved new appointments, including Ibrahim Barde as Special Adviser on Internally Generated Revenue, Abdulhamid Danladi as Special Adviser on Diaspora, and Bello Kiru as Special Adviser on Water Resources.

Further appointments include Nura Shanono as Managing Director of Water Resources Engineering and Construction Agency (WRECA), Baba Umar as Executive Secretary of the Private and Voluntary Institutions Management Board, Nasir Muhammad as Director General of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), and Aminu Bako as Deputy Managing Director of the Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority (KNARDA).

Amidst these changes, Mukhtar Yusuf assumes the role of Deputy Managing Director of the Water Resources Engineering and Construction Agency (WRECA).
