The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an additional public holiday on Thursday, April 11, 2024, in celebration of Eid-El-Fitr, as disclosed by Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, the ministry underscored the significance of honoring Eid-El-Fitr and providing citizens with an opportunity to observe this religious occasion.
According to the statement, “The Federal Government has approved Thursday, April 11, 2024, as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr. Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, extends congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation, reaffirming President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all.”
While Saudi Arabia confirmed that the crescent of Shawwal has not been sighted, extending fasting to Tuesday, the official Eid-El-Fitr celebrations are scheduled for Wednesday, April 10, marking the beginning of the new Islamic month.
Previously declared public holidays on April 9 and 10 remain in effect, as announced by the Federal Government.
Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, President General of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), designated Wednesday, April 10, as Eid el Fitr Day, following reports of no moon sightings across Nigeria.
