Amidst a heartbreaking saga, makeup artist Abigail Frederick, who sadly drowned in a boat accident alongside Junior Pope on April 10, 2024, was laid to rest by the riverside the following night.
MUK TV reports that in many Nigerian cultures, people who drown are typically buried by the riverbank, and if their bodies must be brought home for a burial ceremony, a sacrificial cleansing at the riverside is required.
The decision to bury her at the riverbank was as a result of her family’s financial constraints, unable to afford the required rituals for transporting her remains back to Akwa Ibom State.
Despite efforts to gather funds, the family faced insurmountable challenges, leading to a modest ceremony for Abigail’s final farewell.
Director Moses Eskor highlighted the father’s inability to cover the expenses for traditional rites, underscoring the struggles faced by the grieving family during this difficult time.
