Officials from the Nigerian Correctional Service (NSC) have confirmed that Idris ‘Bobrisky’ Okuneye, despite his penchant for female attire, will be housed in the male section of the prison during his six-month incarceration.

This decision follows his sentencing by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos for naira abuse charges.

Despite Bobrisky’s self-identification as a man in court, concerns arose regarding his safety in a male facility given his public persona.

However, correctional authorities have assured that measures would be taken to protect him from potential sexual assault.

“Since he admitted to being a male in court, then we have to abide by what was submitted in court,”  Peoples Gazette quoted spokesperson of the correctional service as saying.

The prison official disclosed that Bobrisky would receive adequate protection from other inmates, assuring that he need not fear sexual assault.

“He shouldn’t be afraid of sexual assault from other male inmates because our men can give him protection,” the spokesperson added.

Bobrisky’s social media presence, where he portrays himself as transitioning into a woman, has sparked widespread speculation about his gender identity.

However, the Correctional Service remains committed to ensuring his safety and well-being during his time in custody.
