Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has given a serious warning to local government chairmen in the state, cautioning that those who disrespect his office are jeopardizing their political futures.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Comprehensive Primary Health Centre in Ndoni, donated by former Governor Peter Odili, Fubara expressed his disapproval of criticism labeling his administration as clueless, reiterating that his priority is not to cater to personal properties or a select few but to serve the broader interests of Rivers people.
During the event, which also saw Odili endorsing Governor Fubara as the political leader of Rivers State, Fubara addressed the local government chairmen directly, stating, “But I thank God that whatever it is they think or imagine we are doing, we are happy we are touching lives. Everyone can attest to it. But one critical project, one specific aspect of it is the well-being of our people.”
He outlined his commitment to building an egalitarian society where criticism could help refine government initiatives, saying, “We made a promise to Mr. President to support him, and we will continue to support him. How do we support him? It is to ensure that the welfare of our people is provided for. It is to ensure that our people, those in critical need, are happy in this harsh economic situation.”
Highlighting his administration’s efforts in healthcare, Governor Fubara noted significant increases in the employment of health sector personnel—from 200 to 1,000—and addressed the ongoing rehabilitation of over 340 primary healthcare centers, which were in deplorable conditions when he took office.
He noted that these initiatives are pivotal for enhancing the quality of life for the people of Rivers State amidst economic challenges.
