Chaos erupted at the Oyo State Secretariat in Ibadan on Saturday morning when a group dressed in military camouflage, believed to be agitators, forcefully entered the premises, attempting to seize control of the State Assembly complex.
The group, armed and determined, hoisted a flag on the Assembly grounds as they attempted to take over the site.
According to reports, the agitators are believed to be the members of the O’dua nation, who are fighting for the secession of the Yoruba nation from Nigeria.
This bold move prompted immediate action from the security forces stationed at the secretariat, who urgently called for reinforcements due to the severity of the situation.
A fierce gunfight ensued when security forces, comprising members of the Nigeria Police, the Army, and local Amotekun corps, converged on the scene.
The combined force engaged in a heavy exchange of gunfire, managing to overpower the agitators after intense fighting.
Several agitators were detained during the confrontation, and there were unconfirmed reports of casualties resulting from the shootout.
The situation has heightened tensions in the area as authorities continue to investigate the incident and the motives behind the attempted takeover.
