Private Mohammed Adamu, identified by his service number 21NA/80/0365, has been implicated in the murder of a woman within the 82nd (Airborne and Amphibious) Division of the Nigerian Army, MUK TV has learned.
According to Sahara Reporters, the victim, found wearing a hijab, was discovered by the daughter of an army lieutenant at the division’s officers quarters, leading to a shocking revelation about the suspect’s past and present in the military.
The deceased, named Hauwa, and Adamu were reported to be lovers from the same town in Biu local government area of Borno state.
“The suspect behind the murder of Miss Hauwa, the hijab woman is 21NA/80/0365 Pte Mohammed Adamu of 82Div legal services.
“Unfortunately, Pte Mohammed Adamu is a repented Boko Haram member who after his repentance joined the civilian JTF. It was from being a CJTF that he was enlisted into the Army in the year 2021.
“Investigation revealed that Miss Hauwa and Pte Mohammed Adamu were both lovers and from same town in Biu local government area of Borno state. He, Pte Mohammed Adamu paid her transport to come over to Enugu and killed her. He is currently in custody of the military police and his statement has been taken in which he confessed to the act.
“The late Hauwa was pregnant for Pte Adamu Mohammed before he slit her throat, stabbed her belly multiple times and tied her up in the bush near the 82Div officers quarters, on the early hours of Friday 12th of April.
“In his statement, Pte Mohammed Adamu claimed that the pregnancy the late Hauwa was carrying wasn’t his own, and he is not ready to father any child yet and he lured her out,” sources told the online newspaper.
Senior military officers disclosed to SaharaReporters that Adamu had joined the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) after leaving Boko Haram and was subsequently recruited into the Nigerian Army in 2021.
This came as part of a broader initiative where the army absorbed 400 CJTF members to aid in the fight against Boko Haram.
The murder, described in harrowing detail, involved Adamu slitting Hauwa’s throat and stabbing her multiple times in the belly while she was pregnant.
He then reportedly confessed to the act, stating that he did not believe the unborn child was his and expressed his unwillingness to become a father.
Adamu is now in the custody of the military police, where further investigations are underway.
His role in the military as part of the legal services at the 82 Division and his relationship with his direct superiors have drawn scrutiny, particularly given the army’s initial denials of integrating former Boko Haram members into its ranks.
The incident has reignited debates over the policy of integrating former insurgents into national security forces and raised serious concerns about the effectiveness of de-radicalization and reintegration programs.
