The Nigeria Police Force has successfully captured the leader of a notorious ‘one-chance’ robbery gang involved in a brutal assault on a pregnant woman in Abuja, causing her to suffer a miscarriage.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, made the announcement on Monday via his X (formerly Twitter) account.
A ‘one-chance’ robbery, a term widely recognized in Nigeria, involves criminals posing as public transport operators to rob unsuspecting passengers.
The victim of the recent incident had been trying to conceive for over eight years, making the attack particularly devastating.
ACP Adejobi, expressing outrage over the incident, revealed that the suspect had previously faced trial for similar offenses.
He also shared images of the suspect and the wheel spanner used in the assault on social media, stating: “This is a ring leader of one chance robbery gang in Abuja. He used this wheel spanner to beat a pregnant woman (one chance victim) until she had a miscarriage. The woman had been waiting for the fruit of the womb for more than 8 years. This is wickedness. Anyway, he’s having a trial in the court and has been arrested for the same offence again.”
The police have vowed to ensure justice for the victim, highlighting their commitment to combating violent crime and protecting citizens in Nigeria’s capital.
