The Kaduna State House of Assembly has publicly accused Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the son of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and current member of the House representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, of sending threatening and insulting messages to the Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Yusuf Liman.

This accusation comes amid the legislative body’s ongoing probe into the financial operations of the previous administration.

According to a statement issued by Mal. Suraj Bamalli, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Strategic Communications to the Speaker, the conflict erupted shortly after the Assembly established a committee tasked with investigating various financial transactions, including loans, grants, and project implementations from 2015 to 2023. Bello El-Rufai reportedly responded to the formation of the investigative committee with aggressive tweets, now deleted, which appeared to incite resistance against the probe.

Bamalli said that aside from the contentious social media posts, Bello El-Rufai also directly targeted Speaker Liman via WhatsApp, sending messages that were both insulting and subtly threatening.

These communications have not only been widely disseminated but have also stirred significant public concern in Kaduna State.

The statement from the Assembly emphasized its commitment to conducting its duties diligently, asserting that no form of intimidation would deter its members from pursuing justice and accountability.

It further reassured residents of Kaduna State of its unwavering dedication to transparency and the rule of law.

“The screenshots of these tweets and messages have been widely circulated, causing concern among the citizens of Kaduna State. It is disheartening that a Federal Lawmaker, entrusted with representing the people, would resort to such behavior attempting to obstruct the lawful functions of the State Assembly,” Bamalli stated.

The Kaduna State House of Assembly remains firm in its resolve to provide necessary checks and balances and uphold justice throughout its investigative processes.
