The Inspector General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has taken the decisive step of withdrawing all police officers assigned to former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, as confirmed in a police wireless message.

The withdrawal comes in the wake of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declaring Bello wanted for his failure to appear in court, causing a halt in his arraignment.

According to the document referenced “CB:4001/DOPS/PMF/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.48/ 34,” the order reads: “IG has ordered the withdrawal of all policemen attached to His Excellency and former Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello. Acknowledge compliance and treat with utmost importance. Please, above, for your information and strict compliance.”

Earlier, the Nigerian Immigration Service had placed Bello on its watchlist following the EFCC’s allegations of money laundering amounting to N80.2 billion.

It would be recalled that the presidency had adviced  Bello to cooperate with the EFCC and secure legal representation.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on information and strategy, stressed the importance of Bello facing the charges against him.
