The Nigerian Army, on Friday, released Prince Clement Ikolo Ogenerukevwe, the monarch who had been declared wanted in relation to the killing of 17 military personnel in Okuama, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
Major-General Onyema Nwachukwu, spokesman for the Nigerian Army, clarified the situation.
“Although the army has not exonerated anybody regarding the incident, it decided to release the monarch after intervention of highly-placed personalities in the society and a painstaking review.”
The military initially launched a manhunt for individuals believed to be involved in the fatal attack, causing residents of Okuama to flee the community, as reported by Daily Trust.
Alongside the monarch, the military had declared several others wanted, including Professor Arthur Ekpekpo, Andaowei Dennis Bakriri, Akevwru Daniel Omotegbono (also known as Amagbem), and Akata Malawa David.
Further to these developments, others like Sinclear Oliki, Reuben Baru, and Igoli Ebi, the only woman on the list, were also declared wanted.
Following the announcement, Prince Clement Ikolo Ogenerukevwe surrendered himself to the police, who subsequently transferred him to the Army.
During the handover at Army headquarters, where a Senator representing Delta Central testified to his character, Nwachukwu acknowledged the prince’s cooperation.
