An undisclosed number of individuals have tragically perished in a devastating tanker explosion in Rivers State.
Feared dead in the wake of a fuel-laden tanker igniting at the Eleme section of the East-West Road, the victims were caught in the inferno that ensued, as confirmed by a Facebook of an eyewitness sighted by MUK TV.
Reports indicate that the explosion, happening around 9:45 pm, engulfed nearby vehicles stuck in traffic along the route.
It was gathered that the incident happened near the Indorama Petrochemical Company, a critical national asset situated along the Akpojo-Onne axis of the East-West Road.
MUK TV reports that an eyewitness, who narrowly escaped the inferno recounted his experience in a Facebook post, describing his escape from the disaster as a miracle
He wrote, “I Was returning to PH from Eket, there was a heavy traffic Between Indorama Junction and Eleme bridge. Unknowingly to us, a petrol tanker loaded with fuel started spilling its content on the road.
“And we were just few meters away from the truck. Few Seconds after I and few other Passengers alighted from the vehicle we were traveling in… behold an explosion!
“I have not witnessed this in my life. All the cars, trapped in de traffic, numbering over a hundred went up in flames; human beings roasted. How I made it to safety is story for another day. ”
