A somber cloud looms over the family of Toheeb Eniasa, a young man tragically shot at a petrol station in Obalende, Lagos State, sending shockwaves through the community.
The unfortunate incident, which happened late Wednesday, has left residents gripped with fear, shedding light on the escalating tensions amidst fuel scarcity in the area.
Eyewitnesses recount how Eniasa, patiently queuing for fuel, confronted two alleged military officers attempting to bypass the line, sparking a heated altercation.
The confrontation turned deadly when one of the officers allegedly shot Eniasa before fleeing the scene, leaving behind a grieving family and a shattered community.
“I saw them. They are men of the DSS. They came to the scene to buy fuel but refused to join the queue.
“That is what they always do. It was not Toheeb’s turn yet but he confronted them, asking them to join the queue or be polite about the way they went about the purchase.
“One of them was so impatient. He slapped Toheeb and he retaliated with more words. Before we could know it, we heard gunshots and Toheeb fell to the ground,” Mr. Amos Ayo, a resident of the area told The Punch.
As investigations continues, they are conflicting regarding the identity of the shooters, with some alleging involvement of Department of State Services (DSS) officers, while others dispute this claim.
Amidst the chaos, vehicles were set ablaze, further exacerbating the tense atmosphere in the vicinity.
While authorities work to unravel the truth behind this tragic incident, the community mourns the loss of a promising young life, demanding justice and accountability.
Efforts to reach the petrol station’s management for comment were unsuccessful, as uncertainty shrouds the circumstances surrounding Eniasa’s untimely death.
As the investigation progresses, the state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the fatal shooting, assuring the public of thorough inquiries to ascertain the identity of the perpetrators.
The DSS, however, vehemently denied any involvement in the altercation, urging a deeper investigation to uncover the truth behind this senseless act of violence.
