Minister of Works, David Umahi, has criticized Peter Obi of the Labour Party, accusing him of misguiding uninformed Igbo against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Umahi suggested that Obi’s criticisms against Tinubu’s government could bring judgment upon himself, citing a similar action Obi once justified during his tenure as Anambra State governor.
Umahi stated, “It brings me to some of the comments made by my brother, his Excellency Mr Peter Obi. When His Excellency Peter Obi was the governor, he made a statement saying ‘Any infrastructure that stands in the way of the road must go. And there would be no compensation paid.’ That’s what he said.”
Speaking during an event organized by the Ministry of Works to compensate property owners affected by demolition due to the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, Umahi dismissed Obi’s criticisms as inciting.
Umahi highlighted the contrast between Obi’s refusal to compensate affected individuals during his tenure and the Tinubu-led government’s efforts to compensate affected property owners.
He said, “But look at me, by the human face of the renewed hope agenda administration, we are even paying for people who are illegally staying on the coastal line and don’t have valid infrastructure and valid documents. That is mercy, that’s mercy.”
Umahi cautioned against hasty judgments and criticized Obi for potentially inciting uninformed individuals, urging the importance of wisdom in addressing such issues.
Meanwhile, Obi had criticized Tinubu’s government over the demolition of part of Landmark Beach Resort Beach due to the Lagos-Calabar coastal road project, questioning the rationale and timing of the project amidst widespread unemployment and economic hardship in the nation.
