Olu Adamolekun, the chairman of Ikere-Ekiti Local Government Area in Ekiti State, stirred controversy as he administered the oath of office to his advisors and ward supervisors using a cutlass.

In a widely circulated video on social media, appointees are seen holding a cutlass, symbolizing the deity Ògún, alongside either the Quran or Bible during the ceremony held at the chairman’s office conference hall on May 2.

Adamolekun, representing the All Progressives Congress, instructed the appointees to pledge loyalty to Governor BAO, Deputy Governor Monisade, the APC, and its leaders, under the threat of divine punishment.

“From today, I will be loyal and truthful to BAO (Ekiti State governor), and Monisade (deputy governor), APC and its leaders.

“I will take instructions from the leaders. If I refuse to do so, Ogun or the Quran should kill me. For this, I will be truthful,” he asked the appointees to repeat after him in Yoruba.

Congratulating the newly sworn-in officials, Adamolekun emphasized the solemnity of their appointment and urged them to fulfill their duties conscientiously in accordance with the oath they had taken.

The supervisors and advisers, including Femi Ayeni, Olu Ogundipe, Idowu Ojo Omowumi, Ajayi Mathew Oladele, Sola Alonge, Boluwaji Daramola, Toyin Owolabi, Akojiyan Olamilekan Rasaq, and Filani Motunrayo, were entrusted with their respective responsibilities.
