Police in Edo State have apprehended three suspects linked to the tragic killing of Faith Omodon, a 200-level student of Delta State University, with revelations surfacing about a promised payment of N30,000 by a native doctor.

Omodon, who disappeared on April 1, 2024, while on a farming trip in Ewohon/Uwemen communities in Edo State, was reported missing by her father, Edward Omodon, prompting a thorough investigation by Abudu Division before the case was transferred to State CID, Benin.

According to police statements, suspects Godspower Chukwuedo, 23, and Christopher Nwachukwu, 22, confessed to being hired by Chukwuyem Jonah, a native doctor residing in Iru community, near Abudu, to kidnap Omodon and demand ransom from her wealthy father, offering them N30,000 for their involvement.

“After a preliminary investigation was conducted by Abudu Division the case was transferred to State CID, Benin.

“The State CID operatives while collaborating with the vigilantes group arrested two suspects, Godspower Chukwuedo, 23 years and Christopher Nwachukwu, 22 years. The suspects made statements to the police and confessed that they were being sent by one Chukwuyem Jonah, 26 years, a native doctor who lives in Iru community near Abudu, Edo State to go after Faith Omodon on the farm and kidnap her to enable them collect a ransom from her rich father with the promise of paying them #30,000.00.

“The suspects further confessed that they were resisted by Faith Omodon, and in the process they strangulated her to death. On 07/05/2024 at about 2100hrs the operatives stormed Iru Community and arrested the native doctor, Chukwuyem Jonah.

“Investigation has commenced in other to recover her corpse, and suspects process to court.

“The Commissioner of Police Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye, mni advised parents and guardians to monitor their children anywhere they go and the kinds of friends they keep. He noted that the atmosphere is so dangerous these days,” the Police statement reads in part.
