Former Vice President and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, welcomed his former running mate and 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to his residence on Monday.
Atiku shared pictures of their meeting on his verified X page, captioning it, “It was my honor and privilege to host @PeterObi today.”
The meeting between the two political heavyweights stirred speculation among netizens, with many speculating about a potential alliance to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
One user, OTUNBA, expressed optimism about the possibility of Atiku and Peter Obi joining forces to unseat Tinubu, proposing two scenarios for their collaboration, as reported by SaharaReporters.
It would be recalled that Paul Ibe, spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar, blaming Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for Peter Obi’s defection from the PDP ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Ibe cited Wike’s insistence on zoning the PDP’s presidential ticket to the Southern region instead of specifically to the Southeast, a move that clashed with Atiku’s preferences.
