Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State made a startling revelation on Monday, asserting himself as the only governor in Nigeria who faces relentless abuse from local government chairmen without consequence.
Fubara’s statement came during the swearing-in ceremony of Danagogo Iboroma as the state’s Attorney General, where he also announced plans to initiate a probe into previous administrations, including that of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The ongoing feud between Fubara and Wike has escalated to public insults and political sabotage, with Fubara lamenting, “I am the only governor in the whole federation where local government chairmen will come and abuse me, and I take it, but I wish them well.”
His remarks were directed at Samuel Nwanosike, the chairperson of Ikwerre LGA and an ally of Wike, who publicly disparaged Fubara in a viral video earlier this year.
Fubara also addressed comments from Alabo George-Kelly, his former commissioner for works, and Wike himself, who apologized to Rivers people for endorsing Fubara as his successor.
Undeterred by the criticism, Fubara maintained his composure, asserting, “Even if it is a mistake, by the special grace of God, I am here today. God does not make mistakes. And let me also appeal to them, let them continue to make mistakes.”
