Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has expressed his shock at the roof collapse of the Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife. This message was communicated by Governor Adeleke in a statement that was obtained by DAILY POST on Friday in Osogbo and was released by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed. As the governor prayed for the speedy recovery of the students hurt in the roof collapse, he also disclosed that he had given the Commissioner for Education instructions to communicate with the university administration regarding any necessary actions to lessen the effects on those affected
According to the statement, “This incident, which has caused injuries to some students, is quite unfortunate, and as a government, he assured the school management and the affected students of the support of the state.
“In the interim, I have directed the Commissioner of Education to liaise with the authorities at the OAU on necessary interventions to ameliorate impacts on the affected.
“I urge the people of the state to stand in solidarity with the institution, most especially injured students, and render any available support, including donation of blood if required.
“I also pray for the quick recovery of injured students while hoping that the OAU
overcomes this dastard experience in no time to be able to focus on the pursuit for academic excellence.”
It was gathered that the roof of the Amphitheatre gave way as a result of the heavy downpour in the state on Thursday morning.
The institution Vice Chancellor, Prof Simeon Bamire revealed that the injured students were immediately rushed to a medical facility where they were receiving the best medical attention.
In a statement by the university Spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju on Thursday, Prof Bamire called on students and staff to go about their academic and administrative activities.
The Amphitheatre has also been closed down by the university management
