The National Judicial Council (NJC) has recommended Justice Suzzette Nyesom-Wike, the wife of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for promotion to the Court of Appeal.
Justice Suzzette, the immediate past First Lady of Rivers State, is currently serving at the Rivers State High Court and is among 21 candidates recommended for the appellate court.
Also, Oluwakemi Victoria Ariwoola, daughter-in-law to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola, has been listed among 12 judges set for elevation to the Federal High Court in Abuja.
A report by Vanguard indicates that both Suzzette and Victoria are part of a group of 86 judges recommended for promotion by the Interview Committee on Appointment of Judicial Officers of all Superior Courts of Record in Nigeria.
The recommendations were made during the NJC’s 105th plenary meeting held between May 15 and 16, 2024.
“All recommended candidates are expected to be sworn in after the approval of the NJC recommendations to the President and their respective State Governors,” stated Soji Oye, the council’s Director of Information, in a statement dated May 16, 2024.
