The people of Ukwa, an oil community in Abia State, are protesting the alleged intentional murder of Miss Ochieze, a staff member at the Chinese-owned Inner Galaxy Company.
The community claims that Ochieze was pushed from a crane by her Chinese boss, leading to her untimely death, as reported by Magic FM.
Miss Ochieze, a native of Umuahala Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area, was reportedly fatally injured on the job.
Following the incident, youths from her community attempted to protest at the company on May 20, 2024, but were met with resistance and intimidation from the company’s security personnel.
The protesters are calling on key figures and authorities, including Abia State Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, Hon.
Chris Nkwonta (House of Representatives, Ukwa East/West), Chief Dimgba Eruba (Commissioner Representing Abia State in the NDDC Board), Hon. Godwin Adiele (State House of Assembly, Ukwa West), Hon. Newman Azu (Mayor of Ukwa West LGA), Asa Development Union, the Inspector General of Police, and civil rights organizations to ensure that justice is served.
“The youths are calling on these authorities to help bring the perpetrator of the heinous crime to justice,” a representative stated, declaring that, “An injury to one is an injury to all.”
