Bandits disguised in military attire abducted about 20 people from the Dawaki community in the Federal Capital Territory.
Witnesses described the incident as a troubling attack on the FCT, according to Daily Trust.
Dawaki, the largest organized single settlement in Nigeria, is a densely populated area strategically located along the Abuja-Kubwa Expressway, opposite Gwarimpa Estate.
The invaders, armed with various weapons, breached Dawaki around 7:30 pm on Sunday and continued their raid until about 8:30 pm.
This incident follows a recent kidnapping in Shagari Quarters, Dei-Dei, approximately five kilometers away on the same expressway, where a customs officer’s family was abducted.
Hosea Christopher, a resident of Dawaki, reported that the bandits abducted 17 residents from three houses and a street at Fulani Junction.
However, five of the abductees managed to escape while being taken towards a mountain on the outskirts of the area.
Christopher added that as the bandits approached a forest near Usuma Dam, they were confronted by operatives of the State Security Services.
