Despite a previous denial from the Presidency, the House of Representatives on Wednesday adopted a motion to admit President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, senators, and former heads of state into the Green Chambers for a joint session.
This decision came after the Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced that Tinubu would address a joint session of the National Assembly to celebrate his first-year anniversary and 25 years of Nigeria’s democratic journey.
Onanuga stated that Tinubu’s speech would highlight the achievements of his administration and Nigeria’s democracy since the end of military rule in 1999.
He also mentioned that former Senate President David Mark and former House Speaker and current Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, would address the parliament.
However, Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity, later refuted Onanuga’s statement, claiming the information was false and unauthorized.
Ngelale clarified, “In view of public commentary concerning the President delivering a speech before a Joint Sitting of the National Assembly tomorrow, May 29, 2024, it is important to state that this information is false and unauthorized as the Office of the President was not involved in the planning of the event.”
He further stated that President Tinubu is focused on the inauguration of strategic projects nationwide, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to delivering good governance through transformative projects for the benefit of all Nigerians.
