A shocking incident in Kudan, Kaduna State, has left a 40-year-old man, Salisu Idris, seriously injured after his newlywed wife, Habiba Ibrahim, allegedly cut his manhood while he was asleep.
Idris, a commercial motorcycle rider, recounted that the attack occurred on May 26 after he had returned from early morning prayers.
He told Daily Trust that he was resting when his wife suddenly attacked him with a sharp knife. Neighbors, alerted by his screams, rushed to his aid, preventing the complete severance of his manhood.
“We got married about four months ago, and I can’t understand why she did this because we loved each other and had no prior misunderstandings,” Idris said.
Following the attack, Idris was first taken to a hospital in Kudan, then referred to the General Hospital Makarfi, and ultimately to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital, Zaria, where doctors fought to save his life.
“At the moment, I am more concerned about my condition. I am afraid of remarrying because of this incident,” Idris added.
His mother, Rabi Salisu, who is caring for him in the hospital, mentioned that although they did not live in the same compound, Idris had never complained about his wife.
She also noted that Habiba’s parents are willing to cover his medical expenses.
Efforts to get comments from the doctors on his condition were unsuccessful, and the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansur Hassan, was unavailable for comment.
Habiba Ibrahim, however, has reportedly been arrested by the police.
