The Nigeria Football Federation are making moves to appoint a new technical adviser for the Super Eagles, who would be Finidi George’s immediate boss.
Finidi George was appointed by the NFF in April, nearly two months after the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract.
Recall that the former Eagles’ winger worked as an assistant under Peseiro during his time as Super Eagles coach and was appointed as an interim coach after the Portuguese left.
However, Finidi’s appointment has not gone as planned. As interim coach, the former Nigeria international led Nigeria to defeat Ghana.
But he lost to Mali. Following his permanent appointment as Super Eagles coach, Finidi was thrown straight into the fire.
The 53-year-old was expected to lead the Super Eagles to victory over South Africa and Benin in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
However, Nigeria played out a 1-1 draw with South Africa and shockingly suffered a 2-1 defeat to Benin in a neutral venue.
Those results have put Nigeria in a difficult situation in the World Cup qualifiers, as they are condemned to win at least four of their last six game to stand a chance.of qualifying.
In a recent development, the NFF have scheduled a meeting with the Sports Minister Owan Enoh in order to agree on getting a new technical adviser.
The football authorities want someone with more experience as coach, who Finidi will work under– it would likely be a foreign coach.
In the coming days, news is expected from the glass house, as they look to re-strategize before the next set of qualifiers.
