President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Lagos lawmaker Mojisolaoluwa Kehinde Alli-Macaulay as the Executive Director (Operations) of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund.
This controversial appointment has stirred public outcry due to Alli-Macaulay’s past involvement in diverting COVID-19 palliatives.
In 2020, while representing Amuwo Odofin 1 in Lagos, Alli-Macaulay was exposed for rebranding COVID-19 palliatives as her birthday souvenirs during the lockdown, sparking a petition from her constituents for her recall due to poor representation and theft of aid meant for the masses.
Four years later, despite these allegations, Alli-Macaulay, who is from the same state as Tinubu, has been rewarded with a high-profile federal appointment.
This move is seen as part of a troubling pattern of rewarding controversial individuals within public positions.
The appointment brings to light another contentious decision by the Tinubu administration to appoint individuals with corruption records.
In April, the U.S. government expressed concerns that Tinubu was perpetuating the pervasive corruption of his predecessors through such appointments.
Alli-Macaulay’s new role has sparked significant criticism of Tinubu’s government, raising serious questions about the administration’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
