Senate President Godswill Akpabio has publicly apologised to Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central District, for remarks made during a Senate plenary session last week.
MUK TV recalls that during a debate on the National Transportation Bill, Akpabio scolded Senator Natasha for speaking without being recognised as stipulated by Senate rules, asking her not to speak like she was in a “night club.”
At the resumption of plenary on Tuesday, July 24, 2024, Akpabio addressed the issue, saying that he would never intentionally demean any woman.
He revealed that both his phone and his wife’s phone have been inundated with calls and text messages, many of which were insulting.
“Distinguished Senator Natasha, I want to apologise to you,” Akpabio stated.
“The interest shown on social media shows that we have enemies. I felt I should tender a public apology to you. I do not mean any harm. People should concentrate on things that will move this country forward.”
He also called for responsible behavior from social media users. “Social media handlers should practice with decorum. We won’t out of anger regulate social media,” he added.
