President Bola Tinubu has officially welcomed former Senate President Pius Anyim, who recently switched allegiance from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anyim, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, was presented to President Tinubu by the Imo state governor and Chairman of the APC Governor’s Forum, Hope Uzodimma, at the State House on Wednesday.
Following the meeting, Uzodimma lauded the current administration for its support towards the South East region.
“The South East Governors Forum is very happy with the President and grateful for what he is doing for the people,” Uzodimma stated.
He also highlighted the recent political gains in the region, attributing an entire local government area falling into APC hands to the administration’s performance.
“This is a new dawn and many people have agreed that the President’s administration is doing very well,” he added.
Anyim emphasized the importance of national unity and progress.
“There is a need that we all should put hands together to move the country forward,” he said.
Last week, Anyim, alongside several supporters, formally defected to the APC during the grand finale of the APC campaign for the Local Government Area elections at the Nwangele Township Stadium in Abakaliki, the capital of Ebonyi State.
Joining him in defection were notable figures such as former Senator and PDP Gubernatorial Candidate in the 2023 general elections, Sen. Obinna Ogba, Labour Party’s Chief Edward Nkwegu, and several former members of the National and State Assemblies, as well as ex-Local Government Area Chairmen from opposition parties.
