Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has urged residents not to join the nationwide protest against the rising cost of living.

He made this appeal on Thursday during an interactive session with residents after inspecting the construction of the Abure to Dei Dei road in Abuja.

Amid reports that youths are planning a nationwide protest, Wike acknowledged the hunger in the country but attributed the planned demonstration to politicians aiming to destabilize President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He reassured residents that Tinubu is aware of the nation’s problems and is “working tirelessly” to address the challenges.

Wike emphasized that the ongoing reforms and policies would soon yield the desired results.

“Those asking you to protest are lying to you. It is not for the interest of Nigeria and it is not for your interest,” Wike said, as quoted by NAN.

“Don’t be angry and don’t join the protest, because protest will not solve the problem. The government is aware of the hunger and that is why it is working hard to find a lasting solution to the problem.”

He further urged patience from the residents, saying, “I know that hunger makes people lose patience. Please be patient. That is all I am asking. This hunger will reduce very soon.”

Wike also assured residents that the government will construct a police station in Abure. Additionally, Christopher Maikalangu, Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council, promised to build a health facility in the area.
