The newly elected Student Union Government (SUG) President of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Miss Blessing Iripia Alims, has sparked outrage with her appointment of fifty aides, a move that is reminiscent of Nigerian politicians in power.
MUK TV reports that Miss Alims, who is UNICAL’s first female elected SUG President, appointed fifty aides, claiming it would ensure the efficient running of her administration.
In a letter dated August 1, on the official letterhead of the student government body, she announced the appointments, which include roles such as Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Protocol Officer, and Chief Security Officer.
“After carefully examining and assessing the individuals based on their conduct, credibility, enthusiasm, transparency, and commitment to the Students’ Union Government’s progress and advancement, I am pleased to announce the following appointments for the efficient operation of this administration,” the letter of appointments partly reads.
