Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has officially approved a new minimum wage of N70,000 for state civil servants.
The announcement was made on Saturday during the grand finale of the Ojiji Izhi New Yam Festival.
“I have directed relevant government authorities to draft out modalities for the payment of the new minimum wage commencing in September,” Nwifuru declared.
In a warning message, the governor expressed dissatisfaction with the slow progress of state-funded projects, particularly the housing estates in the Izo autonomous community of Ishielu Local Government Area.
He instructed the Commissioner for Housing to ensure the immediate painting of the houses.
Governor Nwifuru also urged residents to report any delays in government projects caused by contractors.
