Nigerian music sensation Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has made a generous donation of N105 million to the Christ Embassy church in Benin, Edo State. The donation was announced during the church’s Sunday service, where the Afrobeats star expressed his gratitude to the church for its unwavering support during a difficult time in his life.
Rema, who has become a global music icon, revealed that the church had provided crucial financial and spiritual support to his family following the death of his father. In a heartfelt speech captured in a video circulating on social media, Rema emphasized the importance of giving back to the church that played a significant role in his spiritual journey.
I’m not here to give myself any accolades or glory. I’m here to give God the glory,” Rema said. “It is important to give back because the church has embraced, prayed for me, and kept me very consistent with my spirit.
Outlining the specifics of his donation, Rema pledged N40 million towards the infrastructure of the church, N20 million to the Rhapsody of Realities outreach, and N25 million to the development of the teens’ church, where he spent much of his youth. Additionally, he announced a donation of N20 million to support widows within the church community.
Reflecting on the challenging times after his father’s death, Rema recounted how the church, under the leadership of “Pastor Joy” and “Pastor Thomas,” helped his family. “When I was eight years old and lost my dad, we felt very lost and abandoned. Everything we had was taken from us, and we felt very alone. I remember Pastor Joy and Pastor Thomas opened a shop for my mom, and that was what she used to take care of us,” Rema shared.
Rema’s donation comes on the heels of his much-anticipated homecoming concert in Benin, where he performed to a packed audience of 6,000 fans. The concert, a celebration of his roots and meteoric rise in the music industry, was a highlight of his return to the historical city where he grew up.
