The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited has increased the pump price of fuel from ₦617 per litre to ₦897 per litre, marking a sharp increase of the product by over 45%.

This development comes just two days after the NNPC revealed that the burden of petrol pricing had driven its debt to over $6 billion.

Reports from NNPC retail stations in Abuja confirmed the new price adjustment on Tuesday morning.

However, when contacted by Vanguard, the company’s Chief Communications Officer, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, expressed surprise at the news.

“I’m not aware of this. Thank you for reaching out. I have no comment on the matter at this time. If there are any updates, I will make sure to inform you. I appreciate your understanding,” Soneye responded in a WhatsApp chat.
