Elder statesman and Niger Delta leader, Chief Edwin Clark, has called on Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun to arrest Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), for allegedly committing treason.

Clark’s demand follows Wike’s threats to set fire to states governed by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members after visiting Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In a letter addressed to the IGP, which was read to journalists in Abuja, Clark stressed the need for Wike to be held accountable.

He urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to allow his close ties with Wike to override national interests.

“Wike has committed treason, he should be arrested with warrant. Wike believes that the only person he respects is the President,” Clark declared.

The Pan Niger-Delta leader also reminded the IGP of his duty to enforce the law impartially, noting that Wike’s inflammatory statements threaten public peace and could lead to incitement.

“The youths of the states he threatened to set on fire won’t sit down and watch him do that,” Clark warned.

He criticized Wike’s alleged accumulation of wealth during his tenure as governor of Rivers State, calling for an investigation into his finances and property acquisitions.

“Wike is already dancing naked in the marketplace, with one leg in the PDP and one left in the APC,” Clark added, questioning Wike’s intentions in the political arena.

The elder statesman also urged PDP leaders and Nigerians to unite in opposing Wike’s “inordinate ambition” to control Rivers State’s political structure, emphasizing the importance of upholding the party’s constitution.
