Portugal’s captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, has made it clear that he doesn’t need to win the World Cup like his rival, Lionel Messi of Argentina, to validate his illustrious career.

The 39-year-old football icon made this statement after netting his 900th career goal in Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Croatia in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday.

Diogo Dalot had put Portugal ahead, and Ronaldo followed up with a superb volley to seal the win.

When asked about his future ambitions post-match, Ronaldo said, “Portugal winning Euros is equivalent to winning a World Cup. I’ve already won two trophies for Portugal that I really wanted. I’m not motivated by that. I’m motivated by enjoying football and the records come naturally.”

Despite having achieved virtually everything in football, Ronaldo remains focused on enjoying the game, rather than chasing further accolades.
