The family of Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, the man who designed Nigeria’s national flag, has finally laid him to rest after waiting over a year for a promised state burial that never came to fruition.
Despite assurances from the President Bola Tinubu-led Federal Government, Akinkunmi’s family disclosed to Vanguard that they were forced to proceed with the burial due to mounting costs, particularly the N2,000 daily morgue fee required to preserve his body.
In the end, the Oyo State Government stepped in, providing the necessary financial support to ensure the national icon received a fitting burial.
