A tragic incident happened in the Ijegun area of Lagos on Monday night when 19-year-old Fatimo Agboke allegedly stabbed her friend, Faruk Azeez, to death following a heated argument.
The altercation occurred around 9:20 PM. Despite efforts to save the 20-year-old victim, Azeez succumbed to his injuries before he could be treated at the hospital.
Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, explained that the victim’s father reported the incident to the Isheri Oshun Police Division after receiving a distress call from a neighbor.
“The complainant from Ijegun informed us that his son, Azeez, had a disagreement with a female friend, Fatimo Agboke, which escalated into a physical altercation. During the fight, Fatimo allegedly stabbed Faruk in the neck with a broken bottle, causing serious injuries,” Hundeyin stated.
Police detectives responded swiftly, arriving at the scene to find Azeez lying in a pool of blood with a severe neck wound. His body was later transported to Mainland General Hospital, Yaba, for an autopsy.
SP Hundeyin confirmed that Fatimo Agboke was arrested and remains in police custody. He reassured the public that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing.
“This is a deeply unfortunate incident, and we want to reassure the public that justice will be pursued. The suspect is in our custody, and we are investigating all angles to ensure that the truth is uncovered,” Hundeyin added.
The case has shocked the Ijegun community, where many described Azeez as a vibrant young man with a bright future.
Authorities are urging anyone with additional information to assist in the investigation.
