Residents of Mpape, an Abuja suburb in the Bwari Area Council, are living in fear following a mini earth tremor that has plagued the community for three days.

Situated less than 10 minutes from Abuja’s upscale Maitama district, Mpape is home to a mix of low-income and middle-class residents.

The tremor, which first struck on Saturday, continued through Sunday and Monday, causing significant distress among the locals.

According to reports, areas such as P.W Neighbourhood and Mopol 24 barracks, connected by a solitary road, have been particularly affected.

Tremors have also been reported near Katampe junction, close to the Murtala Muhammad Expressway.

Residents have described the tremors as causing buildings to shake and fear to mount.

One resident recounted that the tremor occurred about 10 times on Saturday alone, starting around 4 pm, and worsened the following day.

Nasiru Ahmad, a mining blaster with years of experience, told newsmen that the source of the sound is difficult to pinpoint, unlike the more identifiable noise from stone blasting.

The tremors have become a recurring issue in the area, prompting residents to appeal for assistance from the relevant authorities.
