The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast indicating widespread thunderstorms and rainy conditions across the country from Tuesday to Thursday.
According to NiMet’s latest outlook, thunderstorms are expected to affect various parts of Nigeria beginning on Tuesday morning. In the northern region, areas including Bauchi, Kebbi, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, Adamawa, and Kaduna states will experience thunderstorms. The storms are projected to spread across the region as the day progresses.
In the North Central region, thunderstorms are forecasted for Kogi, Benue, Plateau, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, and Niger states during the morning hours, with extended thunderstorms expected later in the day across these areas.
The southern part of the country will see moderate rainfall on Tuesday morning, affecting states such as Ebonyi, Imo, Enugu, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, and Rivers. Intermittent rains are expected to continue throughout the day.
Wednesday’s forecast includes thunderstorms in Taraba, Adamawa, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara, Katsina, Kano, and Kaduna states in the morning, with the potential for thunderstorms over Borno, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kebbi states later in the day. North Central areas including the FCT, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara states will also see thunderstorms in the morning, transitioning to thunderstorms in Nasarawa, Kogi, FCT, Kwara, and Niger states by afternoon and evening.
Southern regions are expected to experience thunderstorms over Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti, Enugu, Imo, Edo, Cross River, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa states in the morning, with thunderstorms forecasted to persist throughout the day.
For Thursday, thunderstorms are anticipated in Sokoto, Kebbi, Taraba, and Adamawa states during the morning, with later thunderstorms expected in Borno, Bauchi, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa states. The FCT and Nasarawa are also expected to experience thunderstorms in the afternoon.
In the southern region, isolated thunderstorms are forecasted for Osun, Edo, Ondo, Ekiti, Delta, Lagos, Rivers, and Bayelsa states in the morning.
NiMet has advised residents to be cautious of flood-prone areas due to the high likelihood of urban flooding in major cities from heavy rains.
