Chen Hualing Spends his days taking care of his children. Mr chen a former project manager quit the rat race to join china’s growing number of full time dads.

In an interview with Afp he revealed ”I want to be good friends with my kids, they can share everything with me and seek my help.

He further shared his childhood experiences saying” when i was a child, my father was just a ‘father’ and I didn’t think there was anything he could do for me, except financial support.

But now it’s different, I think my children and are practicing a new type of relationship. Also after becoming a full time dad the family atmosphere is better and everyone is happy he said”

The ancient norms have remained the designation of the male figure in the family as the head and breadwinner while the females are the home manager.

Chen’s decision has given his wife a best selling author more time to her craft.

When we first got married, I was always thinking what’s the use of him as a partner? But now i find him very helpful, that’s the difference. In the past I would think that he couldn’t help me with the children and didn’t provide me with quality companionship but now he is the main force in parenting and always stays at home. i think he is very useful to me now.

Survey reveals over half of chinese men would prefer or agree to become stay at home dads up from 17 percent in 2007. The increase coincides with a broader recognition of women’s rights. though they remain under-represented in senior roles.

The opinions on marriage seem to be divided these days. Some people have highly traditional attitudes and want to get married young, but they also want to delegate most family and parenting duties to their elders. They may not consider the contributions that men can make to the family
