Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, a federal lawmaker representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East Federal Constituency in Edo State and the husband of Nollywood star Mercy Johnson, has narrowly escaped an assassination attempt.
The attack occurred on Friday morning at Okojie’s residence in Uromi, where armed men, suspected to be political thugs, stormed the premises.
The suspects arrived in a Lexus GX 470 bearing a Rivers State registration number: PHC 253 FF.
Michael Ihaza, Okojie’s media aide, confirmed the incident in a statement, explaining that the attack was foiled due to the swift action of the lawmaker’s security team.
According to the statement, “The armed thugs who disguised as police officers along with two others, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claimed to be on appointment and proceeded to the seating room.”
However, thanks to the intervention of Okojie’s security personnel, two of the assailants fled, while the driver and one other suspect were apprehended and are now being interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Uromi.
The statement further revealed that, “The suspects have so far made a confessional statement stating that they were sent on the mission by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Esan North East Local Government Area.”
Ongoing investigations are underway to track down the remaining culprits and uncover the full details behind the assassination plot.
