The Federal Government has clarified its decision not to increase passport fees for Nigerians living abroad, despite a recent hike for those residing in the country.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, addressed the issue while speaking to reporters in Abuja.
He explained that the materials for producing Nigerian passports, particularly the booklets, are imported and priced in U.S. dollars.
As a result, the rising naira-to-dollar exchange rate directly affects the cost of passport production.
The Minister noted that dollar-based pricing is a key reason for the differing approach between passport fees for Nigerians abroad and those within the country.
