Ambassador Chijioke Ihunwo, the chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area (LGA) in Rivers State, has officially removed Nyesom Wike’s name from the administrative block of the council secretariat.

MUK TV reported that Ihunwo, a loyalist of Governor Siminalayi Fubara had vowed to rename the building to late former Senator Obi Wali, saying that Wike, a former governor and now the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), does not allow his people to rest.

Wike is originally from Rumuepirikom in the Obio Akpor LGA and has served as a two-term Chairman of the LGA.

His name was prominently engraved on the building as monument.

Ihunwo shared videos on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, documenting the erasure of Wike’s name.

This move comes amid a power struggle between Wike and Siminalayi Fubara, the governor of Rivers State.

Last week, Fubara swore in 23 newly elected LGA chairpersons, with the Action Peoples Party (APP) winning 22 of the LGAs and the Action Alliance (AA) securing one.

In the weeks leading up to the elections, Fubara’s loyalists switched allegiance to the APP.

The electoral process was rife with controversy and conflicting court rulings.

Following the inauguration of the new council chairpersons, numerous Secretariat across the state were reported to have been torched, vandalized, or thrown into chaos.
