National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, has revealed that many of the weapons currently being used by terrorists and bandits in Nigeria were originally government-owned.
He made this revelation during an arms destruction exercise organized by the National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) at the Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment in Abuja on Thursday.
Ribadu highlighted that corrupt security personnel played a key role in diverting these weapons into the hands of non-state actors.
He condemned these actions, stressing that such betrayals have fueled insecurity across the country.
The NSA reassured Nigerians that the government is committed to taking all necessary measures to safeguard the nation and address the proliferation of illicit arms.
