Wiz Khalifa, the American rapper, has been indicted in Romania for smoking marijuana on stage during the Beach Festival.
Authorities confirmed that he possessed over 18 grams of cannabis and consumed some while performing.
Recreational use of marijuana is illegal in Romania, and Wiz now faces potential legal consequences, with the possibility of serving time behind bars if convicted.
After his arrest, Khalifa publicly apologized, stating that he did not intend to disrespect Romania and promised not to repeat the act in the future.
Despite his apology, local prosecutors moved forward with the indictment on October 16, 2024.
According to the news outlet, if convicted, the rapper faces a prison sentence of three months to two years or a fine.
Wiz Khalifa was one of the headlining acts at the Beach, Please! Festival on July 13. He was detained after smoking a joint on stage during his performance. He was later released.
Investigations revealed that during a performance at a music festival in the Costinești resort, Constanța County, he possessed more than 18 grams of cannabis (a risk drug) and consumed another quantity of cannabis on stage in the form of a hand-rolled cigarette,” Romania Police said in a statement.
