Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his celebrity status affords him VIP treatment globally, often including invitations to dine with presidents. However, he noted that the U.S. and U.K. remain exceptions.
In a recent interview with Kiss Fresh London, the Nigerian singer shared that world leaders, including the World Bank president and heads of influential nations, count among his fans. “Every country we go to, the President invites us for dinner except London [U.K.] and the United States,” Davido stated.
Reflecting on the warm receptions he receives abroad, Davido praised the growing global recognition of Nigerian music and culture. “It’s beautiful to see… people welcoming me like a president shows how well Nigeria is doing worldwide in terms of music and cultural impact,” he remarked.
Davido expressed a particular fondness for his African tours, saying they bring the most meaningful connections with fans, though tours in Europe and America are more financially rewarding. He recounted how his Jamaican collaborator, YG Marley, was taken aback by the immense fan admiration Davido commands in Nigeria during the shoot of their hit song Awuke.
The Afrobeats icon’s comments underscore his pride in African support, which he says remains unmatched by audiences in Western nations.
