Tempers flared in Anambra State after a police officer from Otuocha Area Command shot and killed a young man following a disagreement at a checkpoint.
The tragic incident, which happened on Saturday in Anambra East Local Government Area, has sparked outrage and protests among local youths.
According to eyewitness accounts, the confrontation with the police erupted over N100.
In a heated moment, one of the officers reportedly fired the fatal shot.
A source from Aguleri, who disclosed details of the incident alongside a disturbing video of the deceased, identified the police squad’s leader as Onyebuchi.
While the exact cause of the dispute remains unclear, some reports suggest it was related to a N100 bribe, either as a demand or a balance due, but these claims have yet to be definitively confirmed. The Anambra State police authorities have acknowledged the incident.
State police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, responded to the media inquiries, confirming that the officer responsible has been detained.
“The Police Officer involved has been identified as Inspector Sani Suleiman. He has been disarmed and detained for further investigations and internal disciplinarian procedures,” Ikenga said.
