Veteran Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has given important advice to young talents. She encourages them to avoid chasing trends and instead concentrate on their own journey.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, she highlighted the need for individuality and planning for the future, telling young people to focus on their own goals rather than what society expects.
My advice to young talents is to stop being Gen Z or Gen X or millennial and focus on what they want for their lives. Don’t follow everyone else; stand out. Do something for you. Don’t follow the trends; do what is most important. Think about your life; nobody told me this when I was younger. Have a five-year plan. That way, you will know if you are failing or succeeding.
Akintola mentioned that she dislikes being confined to the same type of role. The talented actress, famous for her work in many Nollywood films, highlighted how important it is to switch between characters to share various stories.
One of the things I hate is being stuck; I don’t want to be stuck playing one character. I think it’s important to be able to move from character to character so one can tell different stories. Being stuck means you can only tell one kind of story. What I want is to be able to touch as many lives as possible, and to do that, one has to be different people.
