Following a recent deadly explosion at Orlu’s International Market, which claimed two lives and injured several others, the Imo State Police Command has organized a specialized one-day training for its officers focused on identifying, handling, and safely disposing of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).
The training, directed by CSP M.A. Ogini, Officer in Charge of the Anti-Bomb Squad, was designed to enhance officers’ skills in detecting and neutralizing IED threats.
“The training will be a regular exercise as the command will subsequently hold follow-up training within their units to share and reinforce the knowledge gained,” stated ASP Henry Okoye, the command’s public relations officer.
Officers from divisions and area commands across Imo State attended the session, as part of a broader strategy to improve response capabilities.
In his address to the attendees, Commissioner of Police CP Aboki Danjuma emphasized the escalating use of IEDs in criminal activities, urging the police to be well-prepared to confront these dangers effectively.
“This training,” he noted, “will significantly strengthen their ability to respond to the security challenges.”
CP Danjuma also reiterated the command’s commitment to professionalism and public safety, stressing that the techniques learned would be circulated across all units to boost the state police’s readiness in tackling emerging threats and ensuring the safety of the public.
